Shamim Khan obtained her B Physio (bachelor of physiotherapy degree from the University of Durban Westville (UDW) in 1988. She further completed her MMedSc degree majoring in sports medicine, in 2000 and the Nelson R Mandela school of medicine.
She has travelled extensively with various South African sporting teams as team physiotherapist, including the Commonwealth Games and The Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. With the experience gained working with sportsman, she developed an interest in treatment of chronic diseases of lifestyle using exercise.
She started her private practice in 1994 working predominantly at St Augustine’s hospital. She is a member of the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) and of the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA). She obtained a certificate in exercise prescription and monitoring from ‘Exercise is medicine – South Africa” in 2013.
Together with Beverly Peters, a bio-kineticist in her practice, she prescribes exercise programmes for patients with various problems.
