DR LAUREN KING

Dr. King obtained her MBChB from the University of Natal Medical School in 1998.  After completing her Internship at Grey’s hospital in Pietermaritzburg, she underwent community service at Christ the King hospital in Ixopo.

She obtained her Fellowship in Psychiatry, FCPsych (SA), from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in May 2004.

Dr. King then took up a position as Principal Specialist Psychiatrist at Witrand Hospital in Potchefstroom, North West Province, from January 2005 to December 2006.

She returned to KwaZulu-Natal in January 2007, to serve as Chief Technical Advisor, Mental Health Policy Development, in the KZN Provincial Department of Health, until December 2008.

Dr. King has been in private practice since June 2008.  She is registered with the Health Professional’s Council of South Africa (HPCSA).  She is a member of the South African Society of Psychiatrists (SASOP).  She has served as a board member of SASOP, overseeing the Transformation portfolio.

Dr. King has had a keen interest in Psychiatric clinical trials, and has participated in several international clinical research trials in the area of Depression and antidepressants.

Dr. King has served as an Examiner for the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, examining medical practitioners undertaking an exit examination in their training in the field of psychiatry.
