My story:
I am a 33 year old Mother, Wife and Business Woman. I love spending quality time with my family, going on holiday, in between my hectic work schedule. Having two Businesses’ to run with branches across South Africa, meals on the run can become a norm.
At the age of 21 years old, I lost my mum. A few months later my husband and I had started dating, we opened our First Business 2 years later. Life became very hectic for us. With the loss of my mum and work stress, I had literally doubled my weight in 5 to 10years. At the age of 21 I was 55kgs. At the age of 31 I was 93kgs, having peaked at 101kgs during my pregnancy.
I had lost all self-esteem. I felt as if I wasn’t taken serious in Business as if people looked down on me. I hated shopping as nothing would fit having taken a size 42 to 44 already. It was December 26th my Wedding Anniversary when I looked at a picture of myself and was totally shocked at how I looked. It was then that I decided to make the change. It was now or never. I was never going to diet or exercise. After having researched Bariatric Surgery and seeing and speaking to the patients that had done the surgery, I had made my decision and never looked back.
Recovery for me was very quick and easy. Knowing that it was a pain for healing, but I was always positive. I was surprised to be driving and up and about at work one week post operation. Eating normally took time but it was all in the healing process. There had been no repercussions from the surgery and all procedures were followed by Doctors, Nurses etc.
So 3 years post operation, I am now 53kgs, having lost a whopping 40kgs. I have my life back!! I am a mother that can Hop, Skip and Jump with my child, and I feel sexy again, and have my confidence back and funny enough, I think I do get taken seriously. It was as if by being overweight, was me neglecting myself. Now I take MYSELF more seriously. I can now walk into a store and be able to choose a dress that I like and be comfortable in it. I feel comfortable and happy and walk with my head held up high with confidence. Having Bariatric surgery has given me a new look on life. It has changed my life in many positive ways
